Fat Loss
You want to lose the extra weight you are carrying on your body - most of it is in the form of fat – so you really don’t need to take in extra fat in your diet. The easiest way to lose weight is to go on a fat loss diet.
But this does not mean that you have to eat only boiled, steamed or raw foods at every meal. When people think they have to go on a fat loss diet that is usually what they associate with fat loss.
Fatty foods
Most fatty foods have a good mouth feel and also leave you feel satiated for a longer period of time. Plus fat is always associated with certain foods. To give you an example, toast and butter. And then there are steamed vegetables (and mashed potatoes) which seem to derive their taste from the butter. Even if you use a butter substitute, it still has a large number of calories.
Apart from that, all fried foods are high in fat content. Whether it is the burger you eat or the fried rice, whether it pizza or pretzels, cakes or pies, they are all high in fats. In fact most fast foods and comfort foods are high in fat and add to the fat content of your food. Even if you eat lots of salads, you may be adding a lot of salad dressing which is usually high in fats.
Losing weight
You have to cut out fats from your diet if you want to lose weight. It is not easy to think of a diet without all the foods you are used to. But if you are serious about losing weight, you need to cut out the fats first so that you can reduce the fat from your body.
Most people, who need to lose just a little or a lot of weight, store the extra weight in the form of fat in the bodies. All humans need some fat on their bodies partly because fat is important to protect the delicate organs in the body.
How to cut out fats
You can cut out fats from your diet by cooking your foods in non-stick pans, using steamers, using your oven and even basting your foods with liquids instead of fats. Instead of using butter with your bread find a butter substitute or go without butter. You will soon get used to the taste. Eat air popped popcorn instead of buttered. Eat low fat cheeses.
When cooking in pans, use a cooking spray which will cut the use of fat in your foods. Nowadays you even get olive oil cooking sprays. You have to change your cooking and eating habits and not reach for the nearest fried food to satisfy your cravings.
Fatty acids
All fats are not bad for health. Your body needs some fat to help absorb vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin D which are fat soluble vitamins. Plus your body needs the good fatty acids which it cannot manufacture and you need to eat the required food to get it.
Omega 3 fatty acids are found in various fatty fish such as mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon. The American Heart Association recommends eating some of this fish at least twice a week. If you are not a fish eater, you may want to have a dietary supplement which is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Flax seed oil is also rich in this and if you have cold pressed flax seed oil you also get other important nutritive benefits.
Balancing your fat intake
You can’t cut out all fats from your diet, because a lot of foods have natural fats in them, even if in minuscule quantities. You have to balance your fatty acid intake not only for dietary purposes but also for good health.
It is the extra and often invisible fat which is bad for health and makes you put on weight. If you are conscious of what you are eating all the time and make sure you go in for healthy substitutes for fatty foods, you will find losing weight easier.
