Trying to find good weight loss tips and ways to lose weight when traveling can be difficult.  Work or family obligations to ‘go out to dinner’, excitement about being in a new area, or trying that ‘must visit’ restaurant you’ve seen on TV can all work against the traveler trying to find ways to lose weight. Here are some weight loss tips that just about anyone can use while traveling that will show you ways to lose weight.

Weight Loss Tip #1 Take advantage of any hotel exercise offerings

Many hotels have an exercise room or pool that you can use for free, others have agreements with local fitness centers that allow you to use the fitness centers for free.  The best weight loss tips are to use these to your advantage and continue your exercise program while you are away.  If you are staying with a relative, then ask them ahead of the visit if they are members of a fitness center and if you can go with them.  If not, then ask them if there is a fitness center nearby, many offer guest passes at reasonable rates.

Weight Loss Tip #2 Moderation is the key

The biggest pitfall for travelers looking for ways to lose weight is eating out.  There are many weight loss tips for eating out, but the number one tip is: Don’t over do it!  It’s OK, to leave food on your plate at the restaurant that claims to have the most generous portions ever.  It’s OK to order a salad when everyone else is ordering the surf and turf.  It’s even OK to say ‘no thank you’ when asked for the third time by your boss or mother-in-law, to have the other half of her triple chocolate raspberry cake.

Weight Loss Tip #3 Don’t use that strange scale!

As strong as the temptation might be to check your weight while travelling, follow this of all the weight loss tips and don’t do it!  Using an unfamiliar scale will only lead to depression, either on the trip or when you get home.  Every scale reads differently, so don’t even bother using the one in the fitness center, hotel or at your relatives’ house.  Just wait until you get home and can use the scale you’ve been using all along to check your weight.

Weight Loss Tip #4 Stick to your plan

If you are on a low calorie diet, high protein diet or low fat diet, you can help yourself by sticking to your plan when travelling.  Try to exercise at the same time of day as you would when you are at home.  Try to eat the same things.  For example, if the hotel you are at offers a free breakfast, try to get the same things you would have at home (yogurt and fruit).  You don’t have to have the eggs and sausage or biscuits and gravy just because it is offered.  If at a relatives’ house or a hotel that does not offer free breakfast but does have a refrigerator for use, don’t feel bad about bringing some of your usual foods along (or buying some once you arrive) to have on hand.

Weight Loss Tip #5 Avoid peer pressure

We’ve all heard it before “oh come on, one more drink won’t hurt” or “oh, you just have to try this fudge brownie or the popular “just have a bite of mine”  In general, try to avoid alcohol.  That drink or two before or during a meal will lower your will power and you may be in for trouble!  Let your spouse, coworkers, or travelling companions know ahead of the trip that you are trying to stick to your plan and in most cases, they will be more than willing to remind you of this when you go to order that dessert or second drink.  They might also have other weight loss tips or ways to lose weight that they want to share with you.  (Just be careful, not all weight loss tips or ways to lose weight are going to work for you)  Doing this will help you avoid peer pressure during the trip.

These are just a few weight loss tips for when you are traveling that are ways to lose weight.  Take advantage of hotel facilities to exercise, remember moderation is the key, don’t use that unfamiliar scale, stick to your plan and don’t let pressure from your family or coworkers (even if it’s your boss or mother) ruin all of the hard work you’ve put into your weight loss.  While there are many ways to lose weight, remembering these weight loss tips while you are travelling will help you reach your goal.
